For Over the last 60 years, HECDC has continued growing from 50 beds to 420 bed capacity with around 680 workers. The hospital is operating as Regional referral level hospital offering primary care to specialized Diabetic clinical service and Eye Care.

The hospital financing is from different sources, own income (from patient revenue and income generation activities) being main source followed by grant from the Government of Tanzania. The journey toward self financial sustainability is progressing well with positive trends.
